Community Service
For 2019 we provided the following:
Lap robes: We distributed 133 lap robes,, 10 fleece throws, on afghan, 4 pairs of socks, and leftover calendars.
Eye glasses and lenses: We dropped off 103 glasses and 160 lenses to Costco who will forward to the Lions Club.
Food donations: We donated 126 lbs of food to the Interreligious Food Consortium.
For the Shriners: We donated 40 lbs of can tabs.
Box Tops for Education: Money was donated to the Delaware School.
Vera House: 114 Items were delivered.
Francis House: 452 items were donated.
Samaritan Center: 273 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were delivered.
Each year we typically so the following: In Sept., for the national Day of Service, our Chapter makes PBJ sandwiches & deliver them to the Samaritan Center.
In November we collect items for Francis House
Each month we collect eyeglasses for a team of doctors going to Honduras to help people with vision problems, and do eye surgery.
We are continuing to make and collect lap robes that will be given out to Wheels On Meals sites in December along with a new calendar and socks.
In April we collect toiletries for Vera House.
Every Month we collect canned goods and $$ for the Interreligious Food Consortium; pull tabs (from cans) for Shriner's hospital, used eye glasses for the Lions, box tops to help educational institutions, and Lap Robes for homebound people.
Watch for the Annual Shredding Event in the Spring.

Senior Dining Site Information Three local agencies prepare nutritious meals for Onondaga County residents age 60 and older. All agencies are ServSafe® certified in food safety through the National Restaurant Association Foundation. A suggested meal contribution of $3.00 (Kosher - $4.00/Lunch, $5.00/Dinner) is returned to the program to help support meal costs and expand services. Guest meals are $6.00. No one is turned away due to an unwillingness or inability to pay.

Ramp Program administered by Onondaga Co Community Development, offers grants of up to $15,000 to install an exterior ramp and/or modify a bathroom and/or kitchen to make it easier for a disabled person to use. Call 315-435-3558.

Eastern Gateway Community College offers free degrees to CSEA/AFSCME members, retirees and their family members of: spouse, domestic partners, children, step-children, foster children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and financial dependents. A GED or a high school diploma is required. The three courses offered are: - Associate of Business Management, 60-62 credits.
- Associate of Criminal Justice, 65 credits.
- Associate of Arts, 60-64 credits.

What is F.O.C.U.S. Greater Syracuse?
“Forging Our Community’s United Strength,” F.O.C.U.S. Greater Syracuse is a community-wide visioning program created with the goal of making Syracuse a better place to live and work. It is a monthly 'forum' chaired by Jim Keib.
It meets the 3rd Friday of Every Month at 7:30 a.m. at City Hall Commons, 201 East Washington Street, Syracuse, NY 13202 -- You are welcome to attend.
The topics vary, but the underlying theme is Syracuse/Onondaga County. The people
that attend are people involved in government (city and county), academia,
small business owners and those representing local organizations.
